The process of exporting information from a directory service. Microsoft Exchange Server supports the exporting of information about recipients stored in its directory database. This information can be exported to a comma-delimited text file (.csv file), edited, and then imported into another system.
For example, you can import recipient information into a spreadsheet to print it out. Or you can export the information into a spreadsheet, use spreadsheet functions to mass-modify certain fields, and then use directory import for reimporting the modified account information back into Exchange.
Using directory export/import is in fact the usual method in Exchange for modifying the properties of a large number of recipients at one time.
